My 16 year-old-son son is griping about his 'four lost days'. He's
had the flu. Thankfully, he is doing so much better but now he seems a
bit bitter about those four days.
Truthfully, he has reason. He stayed in class long enough Thursday to
finish his essay but turns out he had a 104 fever when we took him to
the doctor right after that class (no fever when he went to class...came
on that suddenly). So, he's thinking he did a poor job. He's not to
happy about that.
He missed rehearsal. He has a play coming up in a few weeks and
rehearsal had been canceled the week before because the director had to
go out of town.
He missed a Youth in Government event. He loves his YIG group. It is a
YMCA program across the U.S. that gives students an opportunity to
serve in model governments.
He missed time with friends as well and a couple volunteer activities
that he would have enjoyed. So, he's going on a bit about his 'lost'
days. I gave him the ol' philosophical spiel that he actually has an
eternity ahead of him and he needs to look ahead. Don't let the
bitterness of those lost four days rob him of it, yada, yada, yada.
His response? "No, I don't have an eternity. I now have an eternity minus four days."
That made me laugh. Just glad he's feeling better.
