We're at the tail end of the American Girl phase. My daughter fell in
love with these dolls about four years ago when my cousin passed down
her Samantha doll.
We've had four years of 'little girl'. My daughter is now at that in
between phase. She still wants to cling a bit to her little girl ways
but, at eleven years of age, she's starting to feel the pull toward the
teen years. There's more giggling with her friends about boys and a lot
more talk about 'older girl' topics.
She doesn't play with her dolls as much as she once did but she'll
break them out every so often. She has some good friends who still love
their dolls and they still have fun with the dolls but now it seems less
make believe and more fashionista-type play.
The new American Girl store just opened in Orlando. We hope to visit
in the next couple weeks. I know this is very likely to be her last
hurrah. I love the glimpses I still catch of that little girl so I know
it'll be a fun memory for both of us.
